Summer, time for dinners in the garden and outings on bicycles, readings on the grass in the shade of a tree and long nights spent watching the starry sky. The ideal accessory? A colorful tablecloth to lay on the grass.
With this simple and effective DIY project you can create a printed one with the graphics you prefer, using simple colors for fabric and potatoes.
Make your own and take it with you during your picnics, or use it as a tablecloth during your outdoor dinners.
- cotton canvas (about 140 x 200 cm) or a plain plain color tablecloth, preferably in natural fabric
- trimmings with orange dots
- colors for pink and blue fabric
- a potato
- white thread (or blue or orange)
- sewing machine
How you do it
- DO THE RIM (Skip this step if you are using an already packaged tablecloth)
Wet the fabric and let it dry. Fold the edges of the fabric inward, twice, about 1 cm. Press the edge with the hot iron (1). Repeat the operation on all sides, then sew using the machine (2).
- PRINT THE FABRIC
Create the mold by carving a large potato: Use one half for pulp and peel and the other for seeds (3). Apply the color by fabric using a brush (4), then print the watermelons in random order. First print the pulp with the peel, dry and print the seeds.
- COMPLETE THE TABLECLOTH
After drying the color, fix it on the fabric: cover with a cloth and iron with a hot iron for a few minutes (follow the instructions on the fabric color box). Finally sew the trimmings into balls, using the machine.
