Melt plastic bottles It’s a great idea to avoid throwing them away. When the plastic melts it is very easy to mold it. Let your artistic side leave the interior, you will see how many things you can do! For example you can make plastic flowers, but giving some dynamism to the petals.

How to melt plastic bottles

I tell you that they can melt in many ways. One of them is taking a metal container and adding the bottle cut into small pieces. Fill the entire metal container and put it in the oven. If you can get a small stove and take it out of the house, you will avoid melting the plastic from sticking to another surface or the smell of this material melting at home.

You can put the stove at about 120ºC Let everything melt well, inside the metal container. You will see that some gases can escape, by burning more plastic they will be more harmful. Leave the container baking about 4 minutes and then go increasing the heat little by little. You can do it at 4ºC intervals until you see that it is completely melted.

After the time and well melted, take out the metal container without burning. Then prepare a mold, to shape that plastic. The mold can be with the shape you want. After pour the liquid material inside, you can help yourself with a wooden stick. To finish let it cool completely. Then unmold and you will see the figures made.

By last if you have made plastic flowers and you just want to give your petals a little shape, just use a candle or a lighter and melt the edges a bit. Do not put the heat source too close, but at a safe distance so that it does not burn.

Ideas for plastic molding

Let’s see below some ideas to be able to use the melted plastic and turn them into objects for another use.

Mold with reused materials

The first thing we have to do is prepare the original piece that we will use to create the mold. To do this, first clean the article well. Once clean, apply a release agent on the original part to ensure that the original part will come off.

The next step would be to cover the article with a layer of bubble remover to prevent its formation. We will place the original part in a heat resistant container.

The last step would be pour the melted material over the original piece. Do it carefully and let the product cool to harden. When this happens, only demold.

Silicone mold

The first will be create a catalyst solution with soap and water. With this mixture, what we are getting is to create a product that makes the silicone harden faster. To do this, mix 2 liters of water with 120 milliliters of dishwasher.

Once we have the previous mixture, we must take a silicone canister and pour all its contents into the previous catalyst solution. When all the silicone is in the mixture, with the help of our hands we will mold it to create a less malleable ball.

To create the mold, we will take the silicone dough and stretch it as if it were a pizza base. We will place the original piece in it by pressing it. Use a product that helps you remove the original part without damaging our mold.

Finally, let the mold harden completely. To prevent the silicone from sticking, we recommend adding a little water with soap in a container and putting the mold in it.

Mold emptying

The first thing will be to prepare the work area. We should look for a place in the house that has good light and ventilation. Cover the area with towels or paper so as not to stain more than the bill.

The next thing we should do is prepare the mold. It is important to treat it properly to succeed. For example, if the mold is purchased, it should be washed with hot water to remove any residue that may affect us.

We will take plastic resin and mix it well. This resin is formed by two products. It would be necessary to mix both in equal quantities and mix everything well until you get a uniform product.

We will pour the resin inside the mold by spraying the top with a release agent to prevent bubbles from rising upwards.

Finally, carefully remove the item from the mold when the resin has settled. In the event that the mold is silicone, apply pressure on the back with our fingers to remove the item.
